A story starts with the creator but ends (most importantly) with the reader, and school author visits deliver a unique opportunity for inspiration, motivation, and education.
I am now represented by Speakers Ink, which means it’s now even easier to book me for your Aussie classroom (grades 4-6), Book Week, library, or literary festival.
About Speakers Ink
Speakers Ink strives to promote communication, literacy and confidence and to inspire creative endeavours by engaging audiences with quality literary presenters.
Why book me for a Primary School author visit
I’m all about bringing the magic of storytelling beyond the page through presentations (tailored to the audience and venue) and workshops for a more hands-on experience.
I live on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, but can travel to Brisbane, Gold Coast, Moreton Bay, Noosa, wider Queensland and interstate.
Suited to ages 8-13 but can adapt depending on the occasion.
A Journey to Farwood: Wings, beaks & magic (example of talking points)
- About my book series The Feathers of Farwood and about the Queensland author
- Aussie owl facts – Eastern Barn Owl to the (not-an-owl) Tawny Frogmouth
- Interactive feather identification quiz
- Owl senses – how these stealthy birds of prey view the world and how I incorporated this into my alternating owl POV chapters
- The essential elements of a good story – from the premise and hook, through to crafting compelling characters and why magic systems and magical worlds need ‘rules’ and logic
- The ‘walkthrough’ technique – drawing on your own senses to make a story immersive for the reader
- Author Q&A (ask me your curly owl questions – from gizzards to owl pellets, and if Barking Owls really do bark).
