The book deal! My debut series announced

Debut book deal, middle-grade books for kids. Feathers of Farwood trilogy coming in 2026 with Riveted Press.

Ever since I was eight years old, I’ve dreamed of this moment. Now, after years of perseverance and plenty of detours and learnings, it’s happening—I’m going to be a published author!

As announced in Books + Publishing, Riveted Press has acquired the worldwide rights to my three-book magical middle-grade series, titled The Feathers of Farwood.

The journey of The Feathers of Farwood began as a single manuscript, which was shortlisted for the 2024 Text Prize.

Inspired by Australia’s unique landscapes and wildlife, this story introduces readers to Eva Feather and her quest to save her father, who has been transformed into an owl by the dreaded Gripps.

Eva’s search for a cure takes her deep into the mysteries of Farwood, culminating on the night of the Farwood Fair when she gets her hands on a spell book that could reverse the curse. But the journey isn’t simple: the book may not even exist, and Eva’s feathery curse might not be a curse at all.

Riveted Press managing editor Rowena Beresford described the Farwood series as “enthralling” and said, “The Feathers of Farwood is exactly the type of book we want to publish.” Her confidence in this series, and the way she supports emerging Aussie voices, means the world to me.

This deal is the result of hard work, guidance from my incredible agent Debbie Golvan of Golvan Arts Management, and, of course, the unwavering support of my family and friends (who’ve listened to me say: “You’ll see my name on bookstore shelves one day” for what seems like forever).

I’m honoured to expand this magical world into a trilogy, and I can’t wait to share more of Eva’s adventures as the secrets of Farwood unravel.

How to write middle-grade books in Australia

The first two books in the series are set to be published in 2026, with the third instalment planned for release in 2027. Knowing that my stories will soon reach the hands of readers is beyond exciting for me.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. I hope The Feathers of Farwood becomes a cherished adventure for children and families, sparking curiosity, courage, and connection with the natural world.

If you love Aussie adventures filled with magic and folklore, fascinating (and occasionally gross) animal facts, breathtaking landscapes from forest to sea, themes of family bonds, friendship in unlikely places, and clever problem-solving, then this series is for you.

Stay tuned for updates as we get closer to launch—I can’t wait for you to meet Eva and the other characters of Farwood! In the meantime, follow along on my blog and social media (Instagram and Facebook) for sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes insights, and all the magical moments leading up to publication day.
